Filed in Slingerlands by on May 11, 2018

Dear Families,

It has been a busy month here at Slingerlands!!

We have had many events:

  • We celebrated Professional Administrative Assistant’s Day and School Nurse Day.  These people are the backbone of our school! They do so much to assist and support all of you, our staff members and most importantly our children.  We are so fortunate to have Mrs. Whalen, Mrs. Kraupner, Mrs. Neri and Mrs. Betzhold. These ladies exemplify our motto, “Always Our Best” every single day!
  • This week we held our Litterless Lunch event on May 9th and 10th.   The children loved it!  Our kids are very conscientious when it comes to the environment!  Thank you to all the parents who helped with this event each day!!!
  • This was Healthy Kids Week.  Our kids having been walking across America as Mrs. Young tallies the steps they walk in miles each day.  We also had Yoga sessions provided for many classes by Janine Murphy. Many children have turned in tickets each day, identify a healthy activity they participated in.  Children have been selected randomly in each grade to win prizes. Thank you to Natasha Ruiz for coordinating this event.
  • Thank you for honoring our teachers all week!!!  We have enjoyed Teacher Appreciation Week with the beautiful flowers children have brought in each day!  Also, the PTO provided wonderful snacks for our faculty meeting on Monday. They also honored our teacher retirees – Kathy Raffe, Bonnie O’Shea, Robin Young, Colleen Sieme.
  • The Sensational Staff Award was given out on Monday.  As you know, this is an award from the PTO as a result of nominations from students.  This year the award went to Mr. Keith Dubray! Mr. Dubray is very deserving of this award – congratulations!!
  • Last night was our Spring Concert.  What talented musicians we have! It is always wonderful to hear was growth they make each year!  Thank you to our very talented and dedicated music teachers – Mrs. Platek, Mr. Biernacki and Mr. O’Connell.  Also, a huge thank you to Mrs Platek and our staff ‘zombies!’ What a show!!!
  • Today we honored our bus driver and bus attendants with our annual brunch.  Our drivers are such caring, dedicated people – we really appreciate what they do for our children!  Thank you to Marla Gornstein for organizing this event!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Warmly,
Heidi
