Letter from Principal Bonacquist, Apr. 13

Filed in Slingerlands by on April 13, 2018

Dear Families,

I hope all of you enjoyed your April break.  The next 10 weeks will prove to be very busy!

Just before the break we were treated to a wonderful experience at the 5th grade Wax Museum!  The children did an incredible job researching a famous person and performing as them at the event.  Visitors paid a nickel for a brief encounter with each famous person!  This is an annual fundraiser that supports the Merillac Homeless Shelter in honor of Dorothy McDonald, the late principal of Clarksville Elementary School. Once again, we broke all our records and raised $825!!! WOW! Thank you all for your generous support!

Slingerlands will practice an evacuation/relocation DRILL on Friday, April 20, 2018. The practice drill is required of all schools and is done in collaboration with the Bethlehem Police Department. The drill will begin at approximately 9:30 am, and will take approximately one hour. Please note: To ensure we follow all appropriate safety protocol, there will be no student drop-off allowed between 9:30-9:45 am. After 9:45 am, there will be staff on site and the parking lot will be accessible. Please plan your morning accordingly. A more detailed email was sent from the district to parents earlier today.

If you know of any parents of children coming to kindergarten for the 2016-17 school year please let them know that the Bethlehem Central School District is sponsoring an information fair for parents of incoming kindergartners on Thursday, April 26 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Slingerlands Elementary School.  At our “Kindergarten 101” event, parents will find information about the lunch program, buses and what to expect in today’s kindergarten.  More information is found by clicking this link

Art Show – BOGO Book Fair – Ice Cream Social – Join friends and classmates for the Annual Slingerlands Art Show.  Enjoy the opportunity to see all the amazing artwork Mrs. Sieme has created with each grade level.

While you are there stop in for the ice cream social and check out our BOGO book fair.

Please consider making this annual event run smoothly by volunteering for a little while.   Follow this link to help us for a short period of time with the book fair:

During this event we will have all the items from our Lost and Found on display in the cafeteria.  If you are missing some boots, jacket, snow pants, etc. please look through the items.  We will be donating any remaining items to a local agency.

Hopefully we see some spring-like weather soon!  Have a great weekend!
