Dear Families,

Happy December!

As the holiday season approaches we have several opportunities for children and families to help others.

  • The Caring and Sharing program is underway. We are collecting food to donate to families in need.  The drive goes through December 17th. Click here for more information
  • Kids for Kindness – We are collecting gift cards to grocery stores to add to the food baskets for the Holiday Caring and Sharing Program. Gift cards should be for stores like Price Chopper, Hannaford and Shop Rite in increments of $25 or less.
  • Toys for Tots – There are boxes in the lobby, by the cafeteria and at the entrance to the primary wing for you to donate new, unwrapped toys.

December 5th:  Panera Dinner Night at the Panera in Glenmont, 4 – 8pm –   Bring the flyer that was sent home or show an electronic version in and buy the family dinner that night A portion of the proceeds from your purchase will go right back to Slingerlands to use for student enrichment. Don’t want to wait in line?  Use the code on the flyer to order on line and just go pick dinner up!

December 8th½ day for parent-teacher conferences and Staff Appreciation Luncheon –  Got time to help with set up in the morning or clean up in the afternoon? Contact Ellen O’Malley( or Amy Hershberg (

December 8th:  PTO Movie Night Fundraiser – The students voted and have selected “Emoji Movie” to view at our upcoming Family Movie Night – won’t you join in the festivities? Tickets are just $3 per person and that includes a Make Your Own Sundae bar!! Look for the attached flyer to come home in red folders!

We will need help to make this event a success and enjoyable for everyone. Please consider giving a little of your time that night by signing up to help on this signup genius:

A few important reminders:

  • Our doors don’t open until 9:10 am. Please do not drop children off for school earlier that than 9:10. This includes children who are here for intramurals, orchestra and band.  Now that the weather is changing, it is cold for children to wait outside.
  • If your child is absent from school or goes home sick, they may not attend after school activities.
  • When we have evening events, children MUST be accompanied by an adult.

Have a great weekend!
