Give & Go Event – Last Friday we had our Give and Go Event – What a GREAT night!!  This event is run by Slingerlands’ staff members as a fundraiser for the PTO. Our goal is to create a fun evening for the children, including philanthropic activities that provide a service to the community.  We had 81 kids join us for the evening. They had a lot of fun as they participated in several community service projects, including:

  • making 100+ dinner bags with sandwiches, fruit and granola bars for the Albany Homeless Outreach Van. Check out the pictures:
  • craft bags for children at Albany Med
  • Valentine’s Day placemats for the Ronald McDonald House
  • collecting food for the IPH (Interfaith Partners for the Homeless) in Albany
  • book collection for the Boys and Girls Club
  • Bookmarks for the book collection

We made $1,100 to donate to the PTO!!

$810 from student participation

$300 was donated by Barb and Roger Monthie

Thank you to Matt Burns for the fabulous job he did organizing this event.

Also, many thanks to the Slingerlands teachers for making this event happen!!

Girls on the Run is coming to Slingerlands

Girls on the Run® inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. Over the course of 10 weeks, the curriculum-based program uses running as a way to help girls in 3rd to 5th grade learn more about who they are and what’s important to them, the value of teamwork and social relationships, and understanding their connection with the world at large through community service. The season culminates with the team completing a 5K event, giving them a tangible understanding of the confidence that comes through accomplishment. We are all about girl empowerment; this is not a track prep program.  For more information and to sign up now click here

Box Tops – The next Box Top submission date is fast approaching.  Turn in your Box Tops this month! Send them to school by Wednesday, February 27 so they can count towards the school’s spring check.  Thank you for helping! Clipped Box Tops are each worth $.10 each for Slingerlands Elementary school.  Please reach out to Kim Gallo with any questions,

Have a great February break!
