Letter from Principal Bonacquist, Jan. 20

Filed in Archive by on January 20, 2017

Dear Families,

This year will be the fourth year of our One School, One Book program. The excitement is building as the clues are being revealed on the bulletin board in the cafeteria. On January 27th, we will have a kick-off assembly to reveal the title.  Until then, it is top-secret!!

Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader. But it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity.  As in the past years, the PTO has graciously agreed to purchase a book for every family. We are asking that each family read the book that comes home.  You will receive a schedule that identifies the chapters that need to be read each night over a 6 week period.  Through the One School, One Book program, we aim to build a community of readers at our school. Everyone – students, parents, teachers, – will be participating, and we can all reap the many benefits. You will want to make sure your family keeps up so your child can be included.

Reading professionals recommend reading material out loud that is beyond a child’s own reading level. We also believe that you can and should continue reading chapter books with your older children, even when they are able to read by themselves. We have selected a title that can be followed and understood and enjoyed by younger students, but that will still captivate and stimulate older children. “When a whole school reads a book, there’s a lot to talk about.” Stay tuned for more exciting details!

Important Reminders:

  • We are collecting used books (elementary and teenage level) for our project with the Little Free Library at the Marillac Center.
  • Our Winter Concert will be on January 23rd   at 7:00pm in the High School Auditorium.  All children performing should arrive at 6:45.
  • Kiss and Go Lane – If you drop your child off in the morning, you MUST pull over to the curb (not in the front circle – this is handicap drop off only) or find a parking space. The lane along the sidewalk is for Drop-off only.  Children should be ready to say good bye and get out of the car quickly to keep the traffic moving.  Thank you so much for your help with this.
  • You will be able to access your child’s report card through ASPEN on January 23rd.  You will receive an email when this is ready.
  • We will have another one of our required Lockdown Drills next week.
