Letter from Principal Bonacquist, Mar. 17

Dear Families,

Our 5th grade musical is a very important tradition at Slingerlands.  This year we celebrated the 47th year of the show!  Once again, Mr. Betor was the Director and Playwright of “Maria’s River.”  A huge thank you to Mr. Betor, Mrs. Clarkson – the Assistant Director and Mrs. O’Shea – the Stage and Crew Manager.  I’d also like to thank Mrs. Reid, Ms. Qualtere, Mrs. Sarnacki, Mrs. Ward and Mrs. Doemel for all their assistance!  The musical is so successful because of the dedication and hard work of many people.  There were dozens of parents that assisted with critical elements of the show.  A special thank you to Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Metcalf and Mrs. Susan Herzog for coordinating all the many committees and details to make the show such a great experience for the children!

Thinking ahead:

  • At the PTO meeting on Wednesday, I will be talking about safety at Slingerlands. Many of you have asked about the changes in our drills and other procedures.  I will be sharing some of the changes at the State level and answer any questions you have.
  • We are starting a Spring Food Drive that will run from March 20 – 31st. Click here for more information
  • Our children in grades 3-5 will participate in the New York State tests. All children are required to take the tests and we ask that you avoid making appointments during the tests. Teachers typically start testing at about 9:30.

Our testing schedule for this spring is as follows:

  • ELA Gr 3-5 March 28, 29, 30
  • Math Gr 3-5 May 2, 3, 4
  • Science Gr 4 Performance May 23
  • Science – Gr 4 Written June 5
  • Accelerated Math Inventory Test Gr 4 – early June

I hope you will all join me as we celebrate another successful One School, One Book event.  “Under One Moon” will be our culminating event for Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.  This will be on Tuesday, March 21st from 5:45 – 8:30.

Have a great weekend!
