Letter from Principal Bonacquist, Oct. 20

Filed in Slingerlands by on October 23, 2017

Dear Families,

I am so excited to tell you that we collected $490.37 from our Coins for Caring coin drive.  A check has been sent to the Red Cross to help with the relief efforts for hurricane victims in Texas and Florida.  Thank you for your generosity with this initiative!

This week we had a presentation by Maddy Ward, one of our 5th graders, for our second Outreach project.  We will be collecting food for the South End Children’s Café.   This is an organization in the south end of Albany that provides support for children and families. The Café provides dinner to children and their families during the week.  We will be collecting food items through October 30th.

We are collecting the following items in each grade level:

Kindergarten   Peanut Butter, whole wheat crackers

Grade 1           Healthy cereals, granola, brown rice

Grade 2           Taco Shells, whole grain pasta (spaghetti, elbows and shells)

Grade 3           Tomato soup, vegetable soup (prefer low sodium)

Grade 4           Fruit cups, canned fruit (prefer in water), applesauce (prefer unsweetened)

Grade 5           Crushed tomatoes, canned vegetables, canned pumpkin

This week Mr. Betor announced the 5th grade musical for this year -” Wish Upon a Star.”  Mr. Betor wrote this musical and we are so excited for the children to perform it!  The children received a packet of very important information this week.  The Parent/Student Agreement form is due on October 27th.   We are having a meeting for the parents of all 5th graders on Tuesday, October 24th  at 7pm in the cafeteria to talk about the musical.  This is a very important meeting and it is helpful if every child has a parent who is able to attend.

American Education Week is from November 13-17. It is still several weeks away, but this will allow you to make plans.  Additional information will come home about a week prior, with specific times to visit your child’s classroom.

On Thursday, October 26th the Bethlehem Central School District will host a parent information night for those interested in learning more about the new iReady diagnostic tool which is an online assessment tool that we use to see where the children are at in the areas of reading and math.  The children will take the assessments three times a year and we use the results to plan instruction and personalize learning for our students.  The meeting will be held in the Bethlehem Central Middle School Auditorium and will begin at 7 p.m.

I hope you enjoy another beautiful fall weekend!

Warmly,

Heidi Bonacquist
