Monster Mash

Tonight –  October 26th  is our PTO sponsored ‘Monster Mash.’  This is a costume Halloween party. We ask that children not wear masks (or face paint that covers the whole face) – we need to be able to recognize every child.  Several primary aged children approached me recently and said that last year some of the costumes were scary. In particular, they were upset by the amount of ‘blood’ that was a part of the costumes.  This was true for some of our ‘walking dead’ costumes. This is a good reminder that this is a school event where the majority of the student that attend are from grades K-3. I ask that you consider this when choosing a costume to wear to this event.  We also ask that they not carry accessories such as wands, swords, etc. This event is for Slingerlands students and their families. We ask that friends from other schools and older siblings not attend. This is a family event and all children need to be supervised by an adult.  We hope to see everyone there!! Doors open at 6:15.

Bethlehem Faculty Musical Recital

We invite you to join us on Monday, October 29th at 7pm at the HS for a special musical treat!  We will have a concert that highlights our own faculty musicians. Come and hear Mrs. Platek and Mr, O’Connell, among others, perform.  For More information

American Education Week

Slingerlands will be celebrating American Education Week During the week of November 5-9.  We all know from research and personal experience that children are successful when the entire school community works together.  It is our goal during this week to bring together parents, teachers, school staff members and students to continue to make Slingerlands a place full of learning and growing. By now, your child’s teacher should have sent home a schedule for their classroom visit.

Required Safety Drills

We have begun our annual safety drills.  We have been doing evacuation drills ( formerly known as fire drills.)  We will have our first lockdown drill on November 1st. This is the only one that is announced ahead of time. I think you will find the document on the link helpful in understanding these –

Have  a great weekend!
