Information about Slingerlands

A few important reminders:

I apologize for inundating you with a lot of procedures on the first week. Safety is my number one concern and our procedures are in place to ensure all children are safe at all times.

PARKING – over the past few days, the Bethlehem Police Department has received many calls from residents about people parking on Union Ave and they have been issuing tickets to those people parking illegally.  This has occurred when there are events, but most often at dismissal time. This creates a dangerous situation for our students as well as our neighbors. Commander Adam Hornick from the BPD asked that I remind you to follow the signs regarding parking on this street.  I also encourage people to go to the back of the parking lot because there are often open spots back there.

ASPEN – Please make sure all of your contact information is up to date, so we can contact you if necessary.

Custody Papers – If you have custody papers, they need to be updated each year.  Please drop these off in the office.

School Day Hours

  • Our instructional day begins at 9:10.  When children are on time, they are able to transition to the new day smoothly and don’t miss valuable information. Our day ends at 3:20, when the bell rings.  Kindergartners will dismiss from their rooms at 3:15. All children in grades 1-5 (whether they are walkers or are being picked up) will dismiss when the bell rings at 3:20.

  • If you are dropping off your child in the morning, please do not drop off prior to 9:10.  There is no one to supervise children before the bell rings.
  • The front doors do not open until 9:10.
  • We ask that parents/visitors do not walk their child to the classroom.
  • If you arrive after the 9:10 bell, you will need to come into the main office and sign your child in.

  • If you are picking up your child at dismissal time, please send a note in to the teacher in the morning.
  • For those people picking up their children at dismissal, the doors in the lobby and by the cafeteria will be open at 3:15.  We will not let visitors in prior to that time. ALL Children will be dismissed at the bell which rings at 3:20.
  • If your child’s last name starts with A-K you will pick your child up in the right side of the cafeteria.  We ask that you enter the building through the side entrance that goes up to the cafeteria and wait in the stairwell until we are ready to dismiss and then exit out the same door.  These children will have pink slips.
  • If your child’s last name starts with L-Z, you will pick your child up in the lobby and enter and exit the building through the front doors.  These children will have green slips.
  • If your child walks or rides a bike on a regular basis, please complete the form sent home and return this to your child’s teacher.  If the weather is inclement, we will announce that children cannot walk/ride home. Please have a plan with your child about what to do under these circumstances.
  • Our Kiss and Go Lane is along the front sidewalk from Union Ave. to the flagpole.  We ask that only children exit from the vehicle on the right hand side.  If your child needs any assistance, we ask that you find a parking spot and walk them into the school.  Click here for more information  – Kiss and Go Procedures
  • Just a reminder that your child’s bus may be a few minutes late for the first few days of school as our drivers are learning their new routes.
