Filed in Slingerlands by on September 8, 2017

Dear Families,

Welcome to the 17-18 school year!!  What a great start we’ve had so far!  The children are so excited to be back and starting a new school year.  I am especially proud of our new kindergartners – what a smooth transition!

A few important reminders:

PTO Meeting – Tuesday, September 12th 7pm Cafeteria

Lunch Menu – To view the lunch menu, please visit the district’s website at www.bethlehemschools.org.

Information about Slingerlands -To view the Back to School Packet and other information specific to Slingerlands, please visit our school website  at www.bethlehemschools.org/slingerlands/.

SNN – If we have urgent alerts or important information one of our first and most proactive ways to push information to you is through our School News Notifier (SNN).

Custody Papers – If you have custody papers, they need to be updated each year.  Please drop these off in the office.

Arrival:

  • If you are dropping off your child in the morning, please do not drop off prior to 9:10. There is no one to supervise children before the bell rings.
  • The front doors do not open until 9:10.
  • We ask that parents/visitors do not walk their child to the classroom.

Dismissal

  • If you are picking up your child at dismissal time, please send a note in to the teacher in the morning.
  • For those people picking up their children at dismissal, the doors in the lobby and by the cafeteria will be open at 3:15. We will not let visitors in prior to that time.
  • If your child’s last name starts with A-K you will pick your child up in the right side of the cafeteria. We ask that you enter the building through the side entrance that goes up to the cafeteria and wait in the stairwell until we are ready to dismiss and then exit out the same door.  These children will have pink
  • If your child’s last name starts with L-Z, you will pick your child up in the lobby and enter and exit the building through the front doors. These children will have green
  • If your child walks or rides a bike on a regular basis, please complete the form sent home and return this to your child’s teacher. If the weather is inclement, we will announce that children cannot walk/ride home.  Please have a plan with your child about what to do under these circumstances.
  • Our Kiss and Go Lane is along the front sidewalk from Union Ave to the flag pole.  We ask that only children exit from the vehicle on the right hand side.  If your child needs any assistance, we ask that you find a parking spot and walk them into the school. Click here for more information https://www.bethlehemschools.org/parking-lot-procedures-slingerlands/.
  • Just a reminder that your child’s bus may be a few minutes late for the first few days of school as our drivers are learning their new routes.

Activities Fair

This year, we are hosting a K-5 Out-and-About Community & Activities Fair on Monday, September 18 as a way to connect our elementary students and their families with a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, sports, clubs and community organizations they may want to learn more about.  Join us on the 18th at 6:30 at the High School.

New District Assessment
Students in kindergarten through eighth grade will take the i-Ready Diagnostic assessment three times during the school year: in fall, winter, and spring. In grades 2-8, teachers will administer the first i-Ready Diagnostic in mid-September. Students in grades K-1 will take their first i-Ready Diagnostic in early October. The results of these adaptive assessments will provide teachers with a personalized instructional course of action for each student.  This will replace the AIMSweb assessments that have been given for the past few years.  This link provides a great summary of this new program  http://www.i-ready.com/tour.  Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.

Enjoy the beautiful weekend!

Warmly,

Heidi Bonacquist
