Letter from Principal Heffernan, May 12

Filed in Glenmont by on May 12, 2017

Dear Families,

Next Tuesday is the school budget vote.  I encourage you to go to the district website to learn about the budget proposed by the Board of Education.  Here at Glenmont we will benefit from a full-time counselor/social worker (one or the other will be here every day next year) and a full-time librarian, among other things.  In addition, there are eight people running for three positions on the Board of Education.  You can watch the “Meet the Candidates” presentation on the district website to learn more about those who are running.  There will also be a vote to replace some older buses in our fleet.  Your child(ren) will be able to vote in the “Kids Vote Too” program for a choice of recess game, so bring them along when you go to vote at the high school on Tuesday, May 16 from 7am-9pm.

Congratulations to our fourth and fifth grade musicians for their performances in our concert this past Wednesday!  It was exciting to hear the growth they made since the January concert.  Thank you to music teachers Mrs. Seebode, Ms. Vitale, and Mr. O’Connell with a special congratulations to high school senior “Mr. Jacob” Hernandez who has been interning at Glenmont School all year in music classes as a part of his BCHS Lab School experience.

Congratulations are also due to our newly elected PTA Board members!

  • Co-Presidents:  Michelle Hearne Arthur and Sherri Freuh
  • Treasurers:  Michelle Marino and Liz Halpern
  • Recording Secretary:  Liz Halvorsen
  • Corresponding Secretary:  Beth Pattison

I’ll be thanking this year’s outgoing PTA Board members next month.

Thank you to Meryl Schwalb for coordinating the PTA Craft Fair last weekend.  Thank you also to Christy Venter and Kate Medhus for chairing Healthy Kids Week at Glenmont School this week. We hope you and your family benefited from the information they shared.

Today our fifth graders visited the middle school.  This was a wonderful opportunity for them to see their future school, meet some of the teachers, and enjoy lunch in the cafeteria.  It sounds like it was a very positive experience for them!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Price Chopper Tools for Schools program.  Today I was able to order a wooden library display for books, lots of soccer and basketballs, some recess games, and more for our children!  Programs like this and Boxtops for Education are an easy way for our school to get some “extras” outside of our regular budget.  We very much appreciate your participation. A special thank you to parent Hope Bigwarfe for chairing this PTA program.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of Glenmont moms!
