Letter from Principal Heffernan, May 17

Filed in Glenmont by on May 17, 2019

Dear Families,

Mark your calendars for May 21 for the annual school budget vote. Town residents will also be voting to fill two positions on the Board of Education from a choice of three candidates. BC elementary students are invited to join their parents at the polls that day to vote in a Kids Vote Too! event from 4-8pm in which each elementary school will be deciding on the color of a glow-in-the-dark silicone bracelet inscribed with our values of “Be Kind, Respectful, and Responsible.”

Tomorrow is the Town of Bethlehem and the Bethlehem Police Family Services Unit’s Walk & Roll Fest to raise awareness of pedestrian and bike safety, as well as celebrate our town’s trails, open spaces, and bike-and-pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods. All are invited from 10am-1pm next to the Community Care parking lot on Delaware Ave. There will be booths, activity centers, a bike raffle and auction, and more.  While there, your child can even enter a drawing to win a pizza party with me for a future school lunch time!

Here at school, we have the NYS Science test for our 4th graders coming up, with the performance test on Wednesday, May 22nd and the written test on Monday, June 3rd.

Our fifth graders have two exciting events on May 31:  Survivor Day which is when they play games with fifth graders from all of the BC elementary schools, and then the Pit Party that same evening held in the basement of the middle school.

All of our students and families are invited to the Glenmont Art Show scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, from 5-7pm.  Every student will have a piece of art displayed; together all of the art makes for a gorgeous display celebrating our students’ artistic talents.  We hope you can stop by!

We will have a Spirit Day on Friday, May 31, for grades K-4 while the 5th graders are at Survivor Day, so getting ready to wear orange and black with pride that day.  And remember that there is no school on Friday, May 24 and Monday, May 29.

Enjoy the weekend!

Sincerely,

Laura Heffernan
