Letter from Principal Heffernan, Feb. 16

Filed in Glenmont by on February 16, 2018

Dear Families,

We’ve been celebrating Black History Month here at Glenmont School by sharing information about famous African Americans during morning announcements, via displays, and in classroom work. For example, a second-grade class learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. or Rosa Parks, and each fourth grader in their buddy class researched a famous African American of their choice. The buddy classes then got together to share what they had learned with one another. Many thanks to parent Remeica Vaval for her help with the displays!

Our school district started a program last year to help out families in our district. For families who request assistance here in BCSD, elementary students can take home a backpack of food every Friday to ensure they are getting enough to eat when school is not in session. As you can imagine, maintaining such a program can be a costly endeavor, so we are looking for additional support. Please visit our website to find out how you can contribute:

The PTA Craft Fair is coming Saturday, April 28! If you are a crafter interested in selling your wares, you can still request a booth until April 1. Please visit our PTA’s website to get a form:–flyers.html or to request more information.

Are you looking for information about how the 2018-19 school budget is being prepared? You can find information on our website by visiting Note that Board of Education meetings are recorded and posted on the website within a few days, so even if you can’t attend, then you can catch up at home on your computer or phone.

Our PTA is generously sponsoring a visit from author/illustrator Matt McElligott on Friday, March 16. If you are interested in ordering a book for him to sign for your child, please return the form that went home by Tuesday, February 27 (right after break!). In the meantime, you can visit the Bethlehem Public Library to read some of his books with your child and also visit his website at

Spring School Photo information went home this week. The photographers will be here on Friday, March 2.

Enjoy the February Break and we will see you on Monday, February 26.
