Letter from Principal Heffernan, Jan. 26

Filed in Glenmont by on January 26, 2018

Dear Families,

Congratulations to our 4th and 5th grade musicians on their wonderful concert last week! We’d also like to thank Mrs. Seebode, Ms. Vitale, and Mr. O’Connell for all of the time and energy they put into preparing the students for the performance. BCSD has an outstanding music department from K-12, and this concert highlighted the wonderful foundation and love of music that our students gain here at the elementary level.

We are pleased to announce that our Glenmont ExxonMobil gas station donated $500 through their Educational Alliance for Math and Science. We will be using the funds to purchase additional math supplies and materials for our school. Thank you to them for their generosity!

You may have heard from your child that he or she had a substitute teacher for part of the day on Tuesday. The elementary teachers across the district have been participating in Response to Intervention (RtI) Behavior training sessions, and Tuesday was our latest training. The goal of the program is to teach children how to manage conflict, regulate themselves, and make good choices using positive behavioral methods whenever possible. We will be sharing details as we continue including how you can use some of the same techniques at home.

Last week our staff came together for a second time to purchase and prepare food for Albany’s Street Soldiers in support of the homeless population. We love practicing what we preach to our students about being kind in order to make a difference in our greater community.

Get ready for the PTA Winter Carnival happening this Saturday, Jan. 27 from 3-6pm! This will be a fun way to escape cabin fever and have fun. We hope you can join us. Please see the PTA website for more information. Hope you can make it.  See you there!

Sincerely,

Laura Heffernan
Principal
