Letter from Principal Heffernan, Mar. 24

Filed in Archive by on March 24, 2017

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to our 3rd graders for all of the work they put into preparing for their Recorder Concert this afternoon!  Thank you to Mrs. Seebode for her efforts as well.

This evening’s Wacky Olympics has been cancelled.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

NYS English Language Arts (ELA) testing for grades 3-5 will take place next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  All testing will begin first thing in the morning, so please try to have your child arrive to school on time, well rested, and well fed.  If your child is ill, there are make-up days so no need to send them to school with a fever.  Like last year, the children are allowed to use as much time as they need.  We present the tests to the children as a way to show what they know and we just ask them to do their best.  Thanks for reinforcing this low stress message.

Looking ahead, here are some additional dates for NYS testing:

  • May 2-4: Grades 3-5 Math
  • May 24: Grade 4 Science Performance test for Glenmont School
  • June 5: Grade 4 Science Written test

Next Friday is the Glenmont PTA Gala!  On Tuesday, March 4, the Board of Education meeting will include a presentation on the academic budget for the 2017-18 school year if you are interested in learning more.  As always, the Board meetings are recorded and posted on the district website within a day or two.   Wednesday, April 5 at Eagle Elementary from 6:30-8:00 will be Kindergarten 101 for incoming kindergarten parents to learn more about kindergarten at our BC elementary schools.   Finally, psychologist Dr. Randy Cale will be speaking at Slingerlands Elementary on April 11 on How to Keep the Distractible Child on Task:  Tools to Keep Kids Focused at 9:30am – all BCSD parents invited!

Remember to pick up your PTA Krause Candy on Monday from 3:30-5:30 in front of the large bulletin board outside of the cafeteria.

Enjoy the weekend.
