Letter from Principal Heffernan, Nov. 9

Filed in Glenmont by on November 9, 2017

Dear Families,

Many thanks to everyone who participated and supported Hoops for Heart and the American Heart Association!  Mrs. Nolan and Ms. Crawford are collecting donations and will let us know the total of our donations.  Specials thanks to our faculty team who played against our 5th graders!  We hope Hoops raised everyone’s awareness of keeping heart healthy.

Parent conferences will be taking place on Nov. 14, Nov. 29, and Dec. 8.  Please note that all students will be dismissed at 11:45am on these days. We look forward to meeting with you and working together to best support each child’s growth.

Our assistant superintendent Dave Hurst recently sent the following message to all parents:

In the spring of 2017, a focus group was formed to study the use and impact of homework at the elementary (K-5) level. The group is comprised of teachers, principals, and central administrators. The group reviewed journal articles and research on the subject (Visit https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1uz0ux-OdBKbInQLZ_3GJGVAyYSddjEy6 to access the materials) and had very meaningful discussions.  The next phase of the review process involves surveying parents. As such, we are asking that you complete a homework survey.  Please visit https://goo.gl/forms/jDov4oCl75ctMyZw2 to take the survey by Friday, December 1st. Thank you for your continued support.

All are invited to the next PTA Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 7:00pm in the Glenmont library.  Picture retake day will be Thursday, Nov. 16.

Take a moment to thank a veteran tomorrow on Veterans Day!  Enjoy the weekend.

Sincerely,

Laura Heffernan
