Letter from Principal Heffernan, Oct. 27

Filed in Glenmont by on October 27, 2017

Dear Families,

The Halloween Ball is tonight!  We are looking forward to seeing all the children in their costumes enjoying the many events planned.  Please remember that no weapons or violent costumes should be worn.  Also, this is a drop-off event unless you signed up to volunteer.  If your child has significant health issues including food allergies and you would like to attend as a result, please contact me ASAP so we can get you approved to attend without chaperoning duties.  Many thanks to our many, many volunteers!

Next Tuesday we will have a spirit day.  We invite all students to wear our BC colors of orange & black including any Glenmont/BC spirit wear or Halloween t-shirts, but no costumes, please.

Next week is Hoops for Heart!  All children will be participating in Hoops (basketball) activities during PE class next week.  While we encourage students to collect pledges for the American Heart Association if they would like, there is no obligation.  Our focus is on teaching children about heart healthy behaviors and activities.  On Thursday afterschool, the fifth graders will be playing staff members in 3-on-3 games for some friendly competition.

I wanted to share with you one of the ways that our staff has been involved in choosing to be kind in our community.  Some teachers came up with the idea of connecting with Street Soldiers, an organization that feeds and clothes the homeless in Albany.  Many, many staff members cooked and baked and made sandwiches yesterday to donate to the organization to help people this weekend.  It feels good to help others and do what we can with the gifts we have.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, our 4th graders will be holding a Pancake Breakfast at Applebees starting at 8am.  Proceeds will go toward their fund to help support Nature’s Classroom and 5th grade activities.  Come on out and enjoy some pancakes!

Enjoy the weekend.

Sincerely,

Laura Heffernan
Principal
