Letter from Principal Heffernan, Sept. 20

Filed in Glenmont by on September 20, 2019

Dear Families,

Many thanks to our PTA, especially the PTA Board members, for a wonderful Fall Family Fun Day last Sunday!  It was fun to see so many Glenmont families here at school enjoying the festivities and spending time with one another.  I hope you had a chance to check out the photos on the district’s Facebook page.

This morning as a part of our Response to Intervention (RtI) Behavior program, our students learned behavioral expectations at Glenmont School.  Specifically, they were taught the difference between expected and unexpected behavior in the hallway, bathroom, playground, and cafeteria. All of our faculty helped out as the students watched videos starring faculty members in which we engaged in both positive and negative behaviors in these places.  The fun videos had an important message: this is what we expect. We are working hard to make our expectations explicit so all of our students can be successful.

Are you looking to get your child involved in an after-school activity or sport?  Interested in knowing what our community offers for children? Please come to the K-5 Community and Activities Fair on September 23 from 6:30-8:00pm in the High School cafeteria.  There will be more than 25 participants with information about a variety of activities for Bethlehem students in grades K-5.

It is with great pride we are sharing an exciting upcoming event in our district!  Greg Tang, Jr., math guru and enthusiast, will be facilitating a Family Math Night on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, from 6:30-7:30pm in the Bethlehem Central High School Cafeteria.  Glenmont students will also be working through “Tangy” activities and challenges during an assembly on October 2.  Our goal is to promote excitement for math while encouraging students to think critically and creatively. We are hoping you will join us on this exceptional night to experience first hand what all the excitement is about.  Please visit the Tang Math Website to learn more.

If you are considering attending this special night, please complete this form so we have an idea of how many families to expect. All forms should be completed by Friday, September 27th.  In keeping with the spirit of Family Math Night, children must be accompanied by an adult. We’re looking forward to an exciting opportunity!

The BCSD Green Team will co-host an evening event about plastic pollution with guest speaker Judith Enck, who will discuss what communities like Bethlehem can do to eliminate this threat to the environment and our health. The event, Plastic Pollution and What You Can Do About It, and will take place on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at Bethlehem Central Middle School, in the auditorium.  All are invited!

Finally, we are also looking forward to our schoolyard scientist George Steele coming to Glenmont over the next two weeks.  He is an amazing educator who, thanks to our generous PTA, will be spending an hour with each classroom, teaching them about the science happenings they can find right outside their doors.

Have a super weekend!
