Letter from Principal Heffernan, Sept. 27

Filed in Archive, Glenmont by on September 27, 2019

Dear Families,

Congratulations to everyone in our Glenmont School community on our 2019 National Blue Ribbon School award! It takes a village, and what a wonderful village we have!  Second grade teacher Amy Klugman and I will be traveling to Washington, DC for a formal ceremony in November, and we will be bringing back an official banner and plaque to share with all.  Go Glenmont!

Next week we have an exciting professional development opportunity for our elementary teachers:  Math educator Greg Tang, Jr. will be working with our district classroom and math intervention teachers on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, and our Glenmont students will also be working through “Tangy” activities and challenges during an assembly on October 2.

Next week is also the district’s Farm to You Fest.  Among some of the activities is a fresh produce drive to support the Squash Hunger Food Drive.  Thanks in advance for any and all donations. Be sure to bring the scavenger hunt sheet to the Delmar Farmers’ Market on 10/1 or 10/5!  Many thanks to our chairs Christy Venter and Kate Medhus for creating the display in the foyer and coordinating this event for Glenmont.

Thursday, Oct. 3, all BCSD schools will be holding our annual “Go Home Early” drill as required by NYS.  The goal is to ensure that students and staff know what to do in case an emergency requires school grounds to be cleared and students to be transported home or to another location.  Glenmont students will be dismissed at 3:05, so be sure to be home a bit earlier to greet your child. School’s Out will be operating as usual.

There will be no school on Monday due to Rosh Hashanah.  And remember that Tuesday will be School Picture day! Enjoy the weekend.

Sincerely,

Laura Heffernan

Principal
