Letter from Principal Heffernan, Sept. 6

Filed in Glenmont by on September 6, 2019

Dear Families,

What a wonderful start to the new school year!  Thank you so much for everything you have done to help your child be prepared, from purchasing supplies to getting your child back on a regular bedtime schedule and everything in between. The children appear happy and motivated and ready to learn!

We hope you will be able to join us for Open House on Thursday, September 12.  This is a chance for you to hear about what your child will be learning and what will be happening in the classroom this year.  Please note that this event is intended for adults only. The PTA will also be holding a 50/50 raffle that evening. We hope to see you there!

Here is the schedule:

  • 6:15-7:15 Classroom presentations in grades 3-5
  • 7:00-7:30 Special area teachers (art, music, library, PE) and service providers (special education, speech therapists, school counselor, etc.) will be available to speak with you in the cafeteria
  • 7:30-8:30 Classroom presentations for grades K-2

We found a bee nest on the side of the school building next to the playground earlier this week.  While we did address this before the first day of classes, unfortunately there were still some bees around causing us to hold recess on the other side of the building yesterday and today as a precaution. We’re hopeful we will be back on the playground next week, but rest assured that safety is our first priority.

A few quick reminders about school drop-off and pick-up procedures:

  • School begins at 9:10am.  We have no supervision before school, so please do not drop your child off before then.
  • If you use the drop-off lane in the morning (after 9:10), please be sure that you drop your child off and then immediately leave.  If you want to watch your child walk into the school, please park in a parking space so you do not cause a delay for the other cars who are behind you.  Also, please do not park or stop in a handicapped parking space unless you are legally allowed to do so.
  • If you pick your child up in the afternoon, please report to the office to sign your child out each time.
  • If you want to turn left as you exit the school, you may use the exit through the American National Insurance Company (formerly Farm Family) next door so you have the benefit of the traffic light.  Please note that this exit is only to be used as an exit; do not enter our Glenmont School parking lot this way.

Our first PTA meeting of the year is Tuesday, September 10.  All are invited! Come meet other parents and find out how you can get involved.  It’s a very friendly and welcoming group.

Thank you again for being a member of our Glenmont School community and sharing your children with us.

Enjoy the weekend!

Sincerely,

Laura Heffernan
Principal
