The Bethlehem Central School District Budget Vote is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21.  The voting will take place in the Bethlehem Central High School Upper Gym from 7 a.m.-9 p.m.  You can find information about the candidates for the BCSD Board of Education and the proposed 2019-20 school budget on our district website.

On May 21 students in grades K-5 will have an opportunity to cast their own votes as part of “Kids Vote Too!”  The students will be able to vote on what color wristlets they would like to have for their school in 2019-20. The color choices are: blue, green, orange, purple, pink and white.  The students will use iPads to vote and the voting will take place from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. at the high school.

Author Kate Messner will visit Hamagrael on Wednesday, May 22 to discuss her life as a writer with our students in a series of small assembly programs.  Kate Messner’s books encourage kids to wonder and include both fiction and nonfiction work. She is an award winning author and one that we all look forward to meeting.  Thanks to our PTA and visiting author committee, Mrs. Held, Allison Reichman, Jill Kobayashi and Maisie Weismann for organizing the program for our school community.

Our fourth graders will take the New York State Science Performance Assessment on Wednesday, May 22.  Our 4th graders will complete a series of hands-on experiments.  The results are used to assess our grades K-5 Science program.

Our Hamagrael Grade 5 Odyssey of the Mind team will be heading off the East Lansing Michigan to participate in the World finals.  This is quite an accomplishment and I am sure they will have a wonderful experience – All the best to our students Jackie Miller, Sierra Obernesser, Charlie LaDue, Amelia Beiter, Oliver Reichman and Ezra Cotton.  If you would like information about the program or starting a team feel free to contact district Odyssey coordinator Rebecca Beiter at

The Bethlehem Rock and Roll Fest 2019 will take place Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. by the American Legion and Community Care Building on Delaware Avenue.  There will be games, prizes, bike clinics and a skills course.

Over the next few months we will begin creating class lists for the 2019-20 school year.  Our goal is to place our students here at Hamagrael Elementary with a teacher in a classroom that is balanced and will support their learning and growth.  We use a variety of variables in the placement process including the following:

  • Academic mix
  • Personality and learning style
  • Peer relationships
  • Class size
  • Special needs

If you have any information that you would like to share with me about your child please send me an email at or send in a letter to the main office.  My only request is that you do not request a specific teacher.  Please send any information to me by Monday, June 10.

Have a wonderful weekend.
