Dear Elsmere Families,

Let’s hear it for the sun that briefly appeared this week (and hope that it makes a reappearance soon)!

What a fun week we had at Elsmere! Many thanks to the PTA and all families for the special recognitions you showered on the teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week. Healthy Kids events were a blast thanks to the work of Katie Urban and many students have accepted the challenge to go Screen Free this week. Remember to bring your completed Screen Free calendars in on Monday for a prize.

Congratulations to our wonderful student musicians and music teachers Mrs. Guyon, Ms. Vitale and Mrs. VanVoris on a moving Spring Concert on Tuesday at the High School. There was plenty of toe-tapping and smiles as the audience was entertained thanks to the hard work of our students.

Two special field trips were enjoyed this week. Fourth graders explored the NYS Museum and the Capitol building including a special tour with Elsmere parent, Judge McDonough. Fifth graders got a peek into life in the middle school in preparation for their transition this fall.

From our oldest to our youngest students, next week is a highlight of the year. In-coming kindergartners will visit the school for Kindergarten screening. We know the rest of the students will give them a warm reception. Fifth graders leave Monday morning for a three-day trip to Becket, Mass for Nature’s Classroom which is slated to be filled with educational hand-on activities and games as well as team building experiences.

Speaking of Nature’s Classroom, the fifth grade annual plant sale fundraiser will be occurring today and tomorrow in front of the school. Fifth graders want you to know that these make great Mother’s Day gifts!

Have a most enjoyable weekend.

Sincerely,

Kate Kloss
