Letter from Principal Kloss, May 17

Filed in Elsmere by on May 17, 2019

Dear Elsmere Families,

Isn’t it amazing how quickly our area has morphed into spring? The school is in bloom and looks so lovely thanks to the efforts of Mrs. Greenman, Antonio F. and friends who have been weeding, mulching and planting our front gardens this week. Thank you!

Our fifth graders enjoyed a memorable three day Nature’s Classroom trip to Becket, Massachusetts. They were fortunate to have good weather for all of their outdoor learning. Many thanks to Mrs. Buffaline, Mr. Valenti, Mrs. Bellamy and Mrs. Pellettier for making this trip with the students.

Tuesday, May 21 is the School District Budget Vote across the state. In Bethlehem, citizens may cast their vote at the high school from 7 am to 9 pm. Information about the Bethlehem CSD budget can be found on the district webpage. Students are also invited to come vote! Every BC elementary school student will receive a special silicone bracelet later in the year. It is up to the students to decide which color will represent their school. There will be an art show and student musical performances concurrent with the budget vote in the evening, so please bring the children and show them what civic duty is all about.

Our Elsmere Spring Concert is next Thursday on May 23. Due to construction around the district, it will be held at Slingerlands Elementary School in Slingerlands. This will be a great venue, but please note that there is no parking along Union Ave. by the school.

Planning has begun for our annual Elsmere Community Day, to be held on June 8. This has been an awesome event for our students, families and the community. If you can help with planning or working on this fun day, please contact PTA president, Sarah Patterson at

On Saturday the Town of Bethlehem is sponsoring Walk and Roll right across from Elsmere, 10:00-1:00, with fun events, safety tips and prizes for pedestrians and bike riders.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Kate Kloss
