Letter from Principal Kloss, Apr. 18

Filed in Elsmere by on April 18, 2019

Dear Elsmere Families,

Happy spring break! It is hard to believe that when we return from spring break, we will be in the home stretch of the school year. It has been such a busy and fun year with lots more learning yet to come.

Something amazing to celebrate occurred this week at Elsmere. On Tuesday, we had 100% attendance at school! Every single student was here making our family complete. We all hope that this special day can be repeated many more times. Thank you for your help with this.

We celebrated Earth Day today at Elsmere with special programs teaching us how to help keep our planet healthy. These included recycling, vermicomposting, gardening, and a skit produced by the high school environmental club. Thank you to Liz Cartegena, Dan Rain and Missy Woller for organizing this for us. Thanks to all who participated in Litterless Lunch!

On May 1 and 2, our third, fourth and fifth graders will be taking the NYS Math test along with students from across the state. As with the recent ELA test, students are encouraged to get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast so they can best “show what they know”.

Attention fourth and fifth grade book lovers (including parents!) – Come enjoy snacks and lively discussion at the next Elsmere Book Huggers club on Wednesday, May 8th at 6:30 in the library. We are reading Moo by Sharon Creech. If you are a fan of Creech’s Love that Dog or Hate that Cat, you will really enjoy this easy read!

The Bethlehem Healthy Kids Committee, a parent group that sponsors activities and events focused on student nutrition, health and wellness, will host a Sleep Health Symposium on Thursday, May 2 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Central Middle School in the LMC. The event is free. Questions? Contact the Bethlehem Healthy Kids Committee at

Wishing you a joyful spring break with your wonderful families.
