Letter from Principal Kloss, Dec.19

Filed in Elsmere by on December 19, 2018

Dear Elsmere Families,

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful winter.  Since many families may be leaving town or settling in for “stay-cation” on Friday, I thought it would be a good idea to send my weekly newsletter a little early.

Thank you to all for sending you children with warm winter gear so they can go outside and enjoy the fresh air every day, weather permitting. Please be sure to label your child’s clothing and check our bursting lost and found if you are missing anything.

At our monthly assembly today, we introduced a special upcoming collection. New and gently used mittens, scarves and other winter clothes will be collected for those less fortunate January 2-11. Students were reminded that regardless of the holiday they celebrate, and even if they do not celebrate a holiday, the cold winter season is a great time to be generous and kind.

In this spirit of generosity, we were also treated to a short concert / sing along by Elsmere alum and local celebrity, guitarist Rick Bedrosian. Mr. Bedrosian donated his time and talent sharing familiar tunes such as Frosty the Snowman and Jingle Bells. He was impressed with our students’ enthusiasm and was very moved by the students’ performance of “Proud” and the Elsmere School song.

Congratulations to our fifth graders who graduated from the DARE program today. Over the past several weeks in DARE, Detective Mike Whitely taught students important decision-making skills and empowered students to choose to lead lives free from bullying, violence, substance abuse, and other dangerous behaviors.

We have a few special events in January:

  • January 4 – 8:45: Grade 4 breakfast
  • January 8 – 7pm – PTA meeting
  • January 11 – 6pm- Elsmere Family Movie night
  • January 21 – Martin Luther King Day – school closed
  • January 25 – 6pm – Grade 4 and 5 Math and Science Night
  • January 29 – * 7pm – Elsmere Winter Concert @ BCHS  *Reminder that this is a new date and different than the printed calendar.
  • January 30 – 6pm – CAPER

Enjoy the rest of your week and the break with your family December 24- January 1.

Sincerely,

Kate Kloss
