Dear Elsmere Families,

Happy National Wear Red Day. We hope that this day is a reminder to all to take good care of your hearts and your health in general.

What a busy week we had at Elsmere! A few highlights:

  • CAPER readers did a great job at our February event. Thanks to Mia, Miles, Holden, Liam, Charlotte, Isaac, Lily, Esmee and Jonathan for reading, plus announcers Zoey and Mia, and Mrs. Cartagena for coordinating.
  • Our monthly assembly focused on Personal Best with inspirational guest presenters, Elsmere alumni Grace Hotaling and Laura Van Voris. Both ladies are successful high school seniors who have reached high levels of achievement in sports (Grace) and music (Laura) through striving toward their personal best.
  • Student musicians performed an excellent dress rehearsal for the student body. Next Monday is our rescheduled Elsmere Winter Concert which will be held at the High School, beginning at 7pm.
  • Many thanks to Liz Lewis and Sara Seder for running a terrific Math and Science night for fourth and fifth graders. You can check out some photos of this fun and educational event on our webpage.

A reminder from Mrs. Meyer to all students participating in the Great Escape Read to Succeed program. Reading logs are due Friday, February 15, requiring six hours of reading for a free Great Escape ticket.

The first week of March will be Read Across America Week at Elsmere, in which we will celebrate the joy of reading throughout the week. As a part of this, our third graders are collecting your gently books for a book sale. All books will be sold for $1 or less with proceeds going to a literacy cause. We hope that every child will be able to get at least one new book to bring home.

Next Saturday morning, everyone is invited to Applebees in Glenmont for our PTA fundraiser. Enjoy a meal with your family while being served by parents, students and staff.  See the Elsmere webpage for more information. To volunteer, click here.

Whether you’re a Rams fan, are rooting for the Patriots or just plan to enjoy time with the best team of all – your family-  I wish you a wonderful weekend!

Warmly,

Kate Kloss
