Dear Elsmere Families,

I hope you enjoyed a lovely week. It seemed like our snowy three-day weekend was quite long and children were happy to back at school with their friends.

We know that many children have been ill these past two weeks and we hope they are all starting to feel better. Parents, please remind children of healthy habits including hand-washing, hydration, and sleep. We are also encouraging all children to bring their water bottles home daily to be washed, reducing the potential of picking up an airborne illness.

Report cards come out today on Aspen. For report cards, our teachers use a 1 – 4 rating scale with our goal being to have our students reach level 3 by the end of the school year.  This instructional scale is intended to provide information about student achievement on specific skills and may change at different points during the year. Our students progress at different rates so the standards may be met in varying amounts of time. Information about our report cards and rating scales can be found on our district website on the Academics tab.

Do you have any gently used children’s books in good condition that you are looking to clear out of your house? Please feel free to send these in to school for our Gently Used Book Sale which will be run by our third graders in early March as a part of our Read Across America Week. Proceeds will be donated to a charity supporting literacy.

A few special dates for next week:

  • Tuesday, January 29, 7pm, High School auditorium – Elsmere Grade 4/5 Winter Concert
  • Wednesday, January 30, 6pm, Elsmere Library – CAPER
  • Friday, February 1 – National Wear RED Day for Women’s Health

We look forward to seeing many of our fourth and fifth graders this evening at our Math and Science Night!

Have a wonderful weekend.
