Dear Elsmere Families,

Happy Spring!  The warming weather certainly helps to bring out the best in our students as we wind through this wonderful month.

We wrapped up Read Across Elsmere Month this week with some fun events including guest readers from the Albany Empire Arena Football team, the Tri-City Valley Cats, and even Mr. Davis, husband of kindergarten teacher Mrs. Davis! Many thanks to Mrs. Mooney, Mrs. Murphy, and Mrs. Davis for arranging this week’s fun. Congratulations and thank you to all students who participated in Read for Ronald! Please send in your packets/donations on Monday.

What an amazing Science Fair we had this week! The variety of interesting projects was so great. Our visitors to the fair enjoyed themselves as much as our student scientists. Many thanks to Kate Geurin and the many parents who helped make this event such a success. Photos of the event can be found on the Facebook page.

Next Tuesday and Wednesday, the New York State English Language Arts Assessment will be administered to all third through eighth grade students.  Assessment results help schools make instructional and program recommendations to help students achieve academic goals. Our students should feel well prepared to “show what they know” next week. A few tips for test days (and every day!)

  • Get a good night’s sleep
  • Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Practice deep breathing or other mindful strategies to help relax and have a positive mindset
  • Avoid making appointments which would cause tardiness.

Fifth graders, a final call for your baby pictures for the yearbook!

Finally, our district continues to host food donation drives to help eliminate food insecurity and hunger for children and adults right here in our community. To maximize our efforts and ensure that your donations are used as a part of a well-balanced, family-friendly meal plan, each school is hosting a food drive during one month of the school year. April is Elsmere’s month! Please see the flyer sent home today for specific items needed. Items may be sent in to school throughout the month of April. Thank you!

Wishing everyone a most lovely weekend.
