Dear Elsmere Families,

Welcome back from February Break. I hope it was a wonderful time of rejuvenation for you.

We had such a fun and busy week! Hoops for Heart on Tuesday evening was a tremendous success: fun for students and raising lots of money for a great cause. Many thanks to Mr. Ridgway and Mr. Valenti for organizing the event and to special helpers: Mrs. Calaban, Mrs. Greenman, Mrs. Hosford, Mrs. Fredette, Mrs. Reed, Mrs. Baldwin, Mrs. Davis, Mr. Balcavage, Mrs. Meyer and Mrs. DeMaria.

The Elsmere Bumble Bees rocked the BOU spelling bee, making it all the way to the sudden death round thanks to efforts of Mrs. Mara, Mrs. Lasky, Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Sauer and Lizzy Kloss. We are grateful to the Elsmere PTA for sponsoring our team!

On Thursday, we gathered as a school to celebrate Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’ birthday. After a special visit from the Cat in the Hat, we enjoyed a whole school Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) time. Thank you Mrs. Meyer for organizing this event and for the fun new bulletin board.

Our grade 3 school spirit club invites the Elsmere community to join the BCUEA in collecting items for local pet shelters. Please look for the flyer about this and send in a photo of your furry (or feathery, or scaly) friend for a display at our school.

Afterschool Enrichment classes began this week thanks to the many hours of work of Melissa Gold and all the parent volunteers. Students have loved the classes so far and are excited for the sessions yet to come.

This week, we welcomed counselor Katherine Howell to the Elsmere family. Mrs. Howell previously worked at the High School and Eagle Elementary and we are happy to have her helping out at our school now too.

Enjoy a lovely weekend!

Sincerely,

Kate Kloss
