Letter from Principal Kloss, Nov. 15

Filed in Archive, Elsmere by on November 15, 2019

Dear Elsmere Families,

Many thanks to all of our veterans and families who were able to participate in last week’s Veteran’s Assembly. Your service to our country is admirable. Thank you also to the many Elsmere staff and PTA who worked behind the scenes to make this a meaningful event for our children.

Our first day of parent-teacher conferences seemed to go very well. We hope you will take full advantage of this opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and goals with teachers. Your partnership is invaluable. We have your child for just a small sliver of their lives and we hope to make the most of it! We will continue with conferences and an 11:45 dismissal on: Wednesday, November 20 and Tuesday, December 3.

Saturday offers some great opportunities for Bethlehem residents. First, you can bring your old books and textiles from 10-1 to the Middle School for America Recycles Day. Next, head on over to the High School for the Harlem Wizards vs. BC faculty basketball game at 4:00. Elsmere players include: Mr. Balcavage, Mrs. Mooney, Mrs. Lord, Mrs. Martelle and Mrs. Kloss. Tickets at the door are $20 to benefit teacher initiatives.

With the holiday season approaching, we appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid extending school breaks. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they are excused absences, can add up to much lost learning time. Missing instruction and fun events at school create unnecessary worry for children. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.

As a parent, I have spent a lot of time worrying about my children, specifically if I am being the best parent I can for them. The illustration below recently came across my desk and I thought it was worth sharing. Thank you for all you do to make your children’s childhoods happy. Together, we are building a beautiful past, present and future.
