Letter from Principal Kloss, Oct. 13

Filed in Elsmere by on October 13, 2017

Dear Elsmere Families,

Happy Friday the 13th.  Regardless of superstitions surrounding the day, I consider myself lucky any day that I get to spend with your children!

This week was particularly fantastic as we all were able to spend an hour or two with environmentalist George Steele, sponsored by the PTA. Mr. Steele guided students in exploring their world through hunting for insects, dissecting owl pellets, bird watching, analyzing bones and furs, and making paper with recycled materials. It was a fun and meaningful experience and we greatly appreciate you parents for making this possible.

Students also will learn about fire safety this week and next through presentations by the Elsmere Fire Department. Our men and women volunteer fire fighters have always engaged students in valuable, practical experiences which will help keep them safe from this day forward.

Next Wednesday from 6-7 will be our first Elsmere CAPER of the year! CAPER (Children and Parents Enjoying Reading) gives children an opportunity to read a short book they have practiced to a larger, supportive audience. There are still a few more slots for readers and everyone is welcome to attend:!/showSignUp/8050845a9ab23a02-october

Friday, October 20 is National Wear Pink Day. Students are invited to join the Elsmere staff in wearing pink to show support for those who have had or have breast cancer.

A big Elsmere welcome to Mr. Michael Gallagher who has joined our staff as an aide in fourth grade. Mr. Gallagher comes to us from the middle school where he was much beloved. He has already been a great addition to our school and we are happy to have him here.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
