Letter from Principal Kloss, Oct. 25

Filed in Elsmere by on October 25, 2019

Dear Elsmere Families,

What a beautiful week we had. The students had a great time playing in the leaves and reminding us how lucky we are to live in a place where we can enjoy the wonders of all four seasons.

Ecologist George Steele worked with our “young scientists” this week, looking at bones, insects, birds, and even owl pellets. Many thanks to our PTA for sponsoring this memorable visit.

Our Grade 4 and 5 School Spirit Club has collected about 15 winter coats and a nice set of baby clothes so far, but more is still needed. Please consider donating any of your unneeded items.

A special event is occurring on Tuesday, October 29: the first ever BCSD Community Walk to promote kindness and respect. Everyone is invited to attend the walk which will be held at the High School from 6:00-7:00 p.m. It is sure to be a great time.

Our much-loved annual Book Fair is starting next Thursday, October 31. Many thanks to Liz Cartegena and the PTA for organizing it. The Book Fair is the perfect kick off to our Elsmere School Reading Challenge. For the month of November, all students will be given a special reading calendar with fun activities and challenges. All those who complete the calendar will be able to choose from a unique selection of Elsmere School rewards such as: riding in the elevator, making the announcements, taking a tour of our basement, receiving a ticket to run in the halls, and more. Students are invited to get sponsors for their reading, to benefit the Ronald McDonald House – a most worthy organization for children and families. Remember, the five ways to become a better reader are to read, read, read, read and read. Plus, it can be a lot of fun!

Hope to see you at Halloween Happenings this evening!
