Letter from Principal Kloss, Sept. 14

Filed in Elsmere by on September 14, 2018

Dear Elsmere Families,

Greetings!  We have had a terrific start to the 2018-19 school year! Thank you to our PTA and Elsmere staff for helping to make this a smooth transition for an exciting year of learning. It was wonderful to see so many of you at Open House. We hope the evening was informative and enjoyable for you. If you were not able to make it, please contact your child’s teacher for information about the year.

Elsmere PRIDE is showing already with kindnesses throughout the school.  For example, our kindergartners and their buddies helped each other acclimate with a tour of the classrooms. Some very sweet photos were posted to our Facebook page! For our new families, Elsmere PRIDE is our special theme that encourages positive character traits every day in every situation: Personal Best, Respect and Responsibility, Integrity, Determination and Enthusiasm. At our first school assembly on Monday, we will be talking more with children about these traits and our general school expectations. More to come on this.

Many thanks to our PTA for the activities they have hosted so far this year including the Welcome Back Coffee and our annual Welcome Back Dessert. Other events on the horizon include Farm to You Week on October 1-5, Dress Like a Farmer on October 3 and School Picture Day on October 5. Please check the webpage calendar for more events.

Thanks to a great idea and leadership from Elsmere parent Mrs. Plummer, we now are collecting old crayons to be recycled and donated, so feel free to send in your old crayons, as well as your old markers and Boxtops for Education boxtops. If your child is a collector, she/he are invited to display their collection in our hallway display case. Just call the office for a time. On display now are Lizzy C’s collection of Beanie Boos, Ben C’s polished rock collection, Mrs. Greenman’s crocheted pins from Grandma Sugar and Jackson’s junior Olympics medals!

As we move into the year, the Elsmere staff thanks you for your partnership in providing your child with a happy and meaningful elementary school experience.  Please feel free to contact me (, or (518) 439-4996 with your suggestions, concerns or ideas so that this year can be the best one yet!

Just a reminder that school is closed on Yom Kippur, Wednesday, September 19. G’mar Tov to all those observing.
