Letter from Principal Kloss, Sept. 6

Dear Elsmere Families,

Welcome to what promises to be a wonderful new school year! We have had a terrific start as we all settle into our new routines, meet new friends, hear stories about summer, and gear up for a great year ahead.

We already have had some beautiful gifts shared at Elsmere. Many thanks to:

  • Elsmere dad, CW3 Thomas Daniels, C-12 Pilot – for presenting Elsmere with a flag flown in our honor during a mission in Iraq. Mr. Daniels shared that the letters and packages sent by Elsmere were very uplifting to him and his colleagues while overseas. He offered a special thank you to Mrs. Nancy Davis for coordinating the mailings.
  • The BCUEA, our district support staff union, for their generous donation of filled backpacks.
  • Elsmere summer custodial team Jerry Lis, Bill Schwartz and Blake Frazee who worked tirelessly these past few days to pull our building together after a summer of construction.

As the year starts, there are some special ways you can be involved in your child’s school:

  • Garden annuals needed – While our new front walk looks great, our front gardens were trampled in the process. If you have an extra annual from your garden to share, please bring it to school to rejuvenate our bright welcome to school.
  • Can tabs – Let’s see if we can fill our pop top container to help raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House.  Send in the tabs whenever you have them. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure!
  • Book Fair Coordinator – The book fair is one of Elsmere students’ beloved traditional events in November. We have several experienced parent volunteers already signed up for jobs, but no one yet to coordinate the event. Unfortunately, the event cannot run without this person (or team of two). Please contact PTA president Sarah Patterson elsmere.pta.president@gmail.com for more information:

This year, we will be using a “Virtual Backpack” to post flyers and other general information often also sent home in students’ real backpacks. A few items are already posted this year including a flyer for the Girls on the Run program for young ladies in grades 3, 4 and 5. Bookmark our virtual backpack to help stay up to date.

The beginning of the year is also a good time to remind you of how important to you are to our school. Please contact me anytime you have questions or suggestions. Together, we can make Elsmere a terrific place for your children and you. In the words of Linus Pauling, “The best way to have a great idea is to have lots of ideas.”

Hope to see you at the dessert party tonight 6-7 on the playground!
