Letter from Principal Ksanznak, May 3

Filed in Hamagrael by on May 3, 2019

Dear Parents,

We will be quite busy here at Hamagrael next week as we will be celebrating “Healthy Kids Week” and “Teacher Appreciation Week” with plenty of fun learning activities for our students.  On Monday, May 6, your child will bring home a flyer with “Healthy Choice Tickets” that your child can fill out and return to school to win prizes.  The theme for the week is “Sleep Health”.  Thanks to Jess Lafata for organizing the program from us this year.

On Wednesday, May 8 we will have our annual Bike to School Day program.  This is always a popular event for our students, parents and staff.  For the past three years we have had the most participants in Albany County winning the “Bike to School Challenge” organized by the Capital District Transportation Committee.  Hopefully the winning streak will continue!  Thanks to Maureen Cunningham and Krista Applebee for organizing this for our community.

Today your child will be bringing home a flyer for our Bike to School Day and for the many events planned for our “Teacher Appreciation” week”.  The staff really appreciates the support of the children and parents.  We truly are fortunate to work in a school community like Hamagrael.  Thanks to our coordinators Lori Bosworth and Heather Cohen for putting this program together for us.

On Monday, May 6, thirteen of our 5th graders will be recognized at the Sandra G. Morley Student Leadership Award program sponsored by the New York State Health and Physical Education Association.  The program will be held at Hudson Valley Community College.  Congratulations to the following 5th graders and to Mr. Berschwinger:

  • Ezra Cotton
  • Oliver Reichman
  • Jackie Miller
  • Tyler St. Cyr
  • Sophie Kobayashi
  • Willa Winston
  • Avery Bush
  • Sadie Bashant
  • Maeve Behan
  • Sierra Obernesser
  • Charlie LaDue
  • Audrey Bell
  • Gabby Richards

On Friday, May 10 our 5th graders will visit the Bethlehem Central Middle School to spend the day learning about the school, visiting the classrooms and eating lunch.  This is always a nice experience for the students and the parents of our 5th graders will have a few opportunities to learn about the middle school at the Grade 5 Parent Orientations that are scheduled for Monday, May 6 and Monday, May 13.  Parents of our 5th graders can select one of the nights to attend.  The programs begin at 7 p.m. and are held at the middle school.

We have a few additions to our May calendar.  On Friday, May 17 we have our Spring Run after school and author Kate Messner will visit Hamagrael on May 22 to meet with our students.

This week we received a $1,000 check from the Hannaford Supermarket as part of their Hannaford Helps Schools program.  The money will be going to our playground fund to help replace our wooden playground structure.  Thanks to Hannaford for their support of our community, our PTA and our Power Purchase Program Chair Julie Levin for helping make this possible.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Dave Ksanznak
