Dear Parents,

The week of May 8-12 will be full of activity here at Hamagrael Elementary.  Throughout the week we will be celebrating National Teacher Appreciation Week as we recognize the many contributions that teachers make to help all children have a positive school experience.  Thanks to Lori Bosworth for all her efforts coordinating this for us.

The week of the 8th is also Healthy Kids Week.  Some of the activities planned include our Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 10.  Last year we won the Albany County Bike Challenge and hope to keep the trophy here again next year!  Thanks to Maureen Cunningham for her efforts coordinating this program for us.  Also on the 10th we will have Yoga sessions available for classes and the YMCA will be here at each recess to set up some games for the children to play.  On Thursday, May 11 we will have a “Litterless Lunch Challenge” to see how little waste we can create during our lunch periods.  Thanks to Erin LaDue and Jess Lafata for putting the week together for us.

On Monday evening, May 8 at the Hudson Valley Community College several of our 5th graders will be receiving the Sandra G. Morley Student Leadership Award from the New York State Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Association.  Congratulations to the following 5th graders who will be recognized Monday night:

  • Paige Davenport
  • Jackson Willi
  • Kaitlyn Tietjen
  • Katherine Ferreira
  • Erika Ruth
  • Cassie Costantini
  • Hugh Sullivan
  • Michael Waldenmaier

  • Ansen Chamberlain
  • Lucy Thomas

On Tuesday, May 9 children’s author Sarah Weeks will be here to share her experiences with our students about her life as a writer.  We are all looking forward to the visit.  Thanks to Mrs. Held, Allison Reichman and Maisie Weissman for scheduling our author visits this year.

On Thursday, May 11 we will have a concert at 2:15 pm featuring our 4th and 5th grade choirs as they prepare for the spring concert on May 15.

Also on the 11th we have a Kindergarten Parent Orientation for parents of our kindergarten students joining us in September 2017.  The program will begin at 6:30pm in our auditorium.

We have our final PTA meeting of the school year on the 11th at 7 pm in the library.  We will discuss the upcoming school budget for the 2017-18 school year as well as the events planned for the rest of the school year.  The PTA is always a pleasure to work with.  The support they provide our students, staff, parents and community is amazing and I truly am amazed at all they are able to accomplish throughout the year.  Thanks to our PTA and the Hamagrael Board:

  • Co-presidents: Erin Svare, Gianna Aiezza
  • Secretary: Leah Witko
  • Assistant Secretary: Erin LaDue
  • Treasurer: Kellie Rancourt
  • Assistant Treasurer: Sarah Metcalfe

We wrap up the week with our 5th graders going to the middle school to visit and see what a typical day is like as a BCMS student.

Have a wonderful weekend.
