Dear Parents,

The month of May looks to be quite busy here at Hamagrael Elementary School.  Next week our students in grades 3-5 will be taking the New York State Math Assessments.  The testing will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, May 2, 3 and 4.  We use the results of the assessments to note areas we are doing well and areas in which we can improve.  This helps our staff plan their instruction to meet the needs of our students.

On Tuesday, May 2 the Albany County League of Women Voters hosts a Meet the Candidates Night at 6:30 p.m. in the BCHS cafeteria.  Voters will have an opportunity to learn more about the eight candidates running for the BC Board of Education.  The vote for Board of Education positions and the proposed 2017-18 school budget will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 7am – 9pm in Gym A at the Bethlehem High School.

On May 5 our 5th graders will have their DARE graduation in the auditorium at 9:45 a.m.  Thanks to Detective Beck of the Bethlehem Police Department for his help with our DARE program.

The week of May 8-12 we will be celebrating National Teacher Appreciation Week as well as Healthy Kids Week.  There are many exciting activities planned including a visit by author Sarah Weeks on May 9 and our annual Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 10.  Last year Hamagrael won the trophy for the most riders in Albany County.  We hope to keep the trophy here for another year!

On Thursday, May 11 we welcome parents of incoming kindergarten students for an orientation program at 6:30 p.m. in our auditorium.  Our monthly PTA meeting will also be held on the 11th and will be in our library at 7 p.m.
