Letter from Principal Ksanznak, June 1

Filed in Hamagrael by on June 1, 2018

Dear Parents,

This morning our students in grades 3, 4 and 5 had the opportunity to meet 1984 Olympic Gold Medal winner in the Marathon. Joan Benoit Samuelson stopped by Hamagrael as part of the Freihofer’s Race for Women’s Athlete Visitation Program.  She shared her life story, the importance of goal setting and living a well-balanced life.  Ms. Benoit Samuelson has been here previously and we always enjoy her visits.  All the best to all running in the Freihofer’s Race for Women tomorrow.

The Capital District Transportation Committee recently announced the winners of the Bike to Work/School Challenge and for the third year in a row Hamagrael Elementary came in first place in Albany County!  We will be able to keep the trophy here at school for another year.  Thanks to our PTA, coordinators Maureen Cunningham and Krista Applebee, the many volunteers who helped and the children, parents and staff who helped us keep the trophy.  Congratulations on a job well done!

Our fourth graders will be taking the New York State Science Written Exam on Monday, June 4.  The fourth graders completed the hands-on performance test last week and I am sure they will do just fine on their written exam.

On Wednesday, June 6 the staff at Hamagrael invites you to the annual parent volunteer breakfast.  You should have received an invitation for this event and we hope you will be able to join us to recognize your work throughout the year.  Childcare will be available and the breakfast will begin at 8:30am in the cafeteria.

On Thursday, June 7 as part of our school safety plan Hamagrael Elementary will participate in a “Relocation Drill”.  You will be receiving information from the district about the specifics of the drill and as always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

On Thursday night our fourth graders will be participating in the American Young Voices Program in conjunction with the National Association for Music Education.  Our students will join other student groups from our area to perform at the Times Union Center under the direction of Conductor, Francisco J. Nunez.  This should be an exciting opportunity for our students.

Hamagrael’s School Banking program will end on Thursday, June 7 for the school year.  The kids really enjoy depositing the money on Thursday mornings and thanks so much to Jackie Conti and Robin Dailey for organizing this for us.

On Friday morning, we will recognize our bus drivers and attendants for all of their efforts getting the children to school and back home safely all year long.  There will be a special breakfast to honor them here in our cafeteria at 9:10am.  Thanks to Lori Bosworth and Kerry Dzekciorius for organizing this for us.

To wrap up the week the 5th graders have their “Hamagrael Grade 5 Pit Party” at the middle school.  Tis is always a fun event for the kids as there is a DJ, games, good and prizes.

A busy week here at school!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Dave Ksanznak
