March 3, 2017

Dear Parents,

It has been nice having the school busy again after our break week and the month of March looks to continue to be busy with plenty of activities scheduled here at Hamagrael and at the district level.

Next week we will conduct a practice lockdown drill.  New York State regulations require that we practice these drills four time a year.  We review the procedures with the children and explain to them that this drill is like having an indoor fire drill.  On Friday we will have one of our bus safety drills at 9:05 a.m. when the buses arrive.  All children including walkers, School’s Out and band students will get on a bus to go over the bus safety rules with our school bus drivers.

Our Spring After School Enrichment program begins on Monday, March 6 and runs through April 12. As always there are a wide variety of classes scheduled for our students.  Thanks to Christy Doyle and Kori Jones for organizing this program for our students.

We have our annual Mark Deziel Science Fair and Summer Camp Fair scheduled for Tuesday, March 14 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. here at school.  There will be an opportunity to learn about some upcoming local summer camps and check out the science fair programs our students have been working so hard on.  We always have a great turnout for this event and the students really enjoy sharing their projects.

On Thursday, March 16 our 5th graders will participate in the BCSD Music Department Choral Festival.  Our 5th graders will be singing with the BCHS choir at 6 p.m. in the high school gym under the direction of guest conductor Dr. Everett McCorvey of the University of Kentucky.

Our March PTA meeting will be on the 16th at 7 p.m. in our library.

The 5th grade choir concert will be on Tuesday, March 21 here at school.  We will have a performance at 2:15 p.m. and an evening performance at 7 p.m.  These will be in our auditorium.

Our Spring Picture Day is set for Wednesday, March 22 for the morning only and the BCSD Wacky Olympics is set for Friday, March 24 beginning at 6 p.m. at our high school.  We wrap up the month with the New York State Grades 3-5 ELA Exams which are scheduled for March 28, 29 and 30 and our Kindergarten Family Math & Science Night is on the 30th from 6:30-8 p.m. in the auditorium.

All the best tomorrow to our Odyssey of the Mind Teams at the Region 7 competition at Shenendehowa.
