October 12, 2018

Dear Parents,

Tomorrow the Bethlehem Central School District is hosting a “Homecoming Hoopla” from 11am-2:30pm during some of the athletic events.  There will be performances by the BC Hooligans Band, face painting, bake sales, photo booths, basketball shooting contests as well as a staff dunk tank.  You can read more about the event, the 2018 BCHS Hall of Fame Inductees and list of athletic contests on the district website. I will be participating in the festivities from 12:30pm-1pm in the staff dunk tank which will be located near the soccer field.  I hope to see you there.

We have another busy week ahead of us here at Hamagrael Elementary.  Our 5th graders will be attending the Nature’s Classroom program in Camp Becket, Massachusetts October 15-17.  The students participate in a variety of hands-on learning and teambuilding activities. This is always a highlight of the year and it wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated staff who organize, plan and spend the time in Camp Becket with the kids.  Thanks to Mrs. Micieli, Mrs. Hannigan, Mrs. Vail and Mr. Waldenmaier for their dedication to our students and the program.

On Wednesday, October 17 the Bethlehem Central Board of Education will hold their meeting here at Hamagrael in our auditorium beginning at 7 p.m.  Along with the general business meeting there will be a presentation on the elementary music program by BCSD Music Supervisor David Norman. Our fourth graders will also be performing during the presentation.

On Thursday October 18, author David Ira Rottenberg will visit Hamagrael as he will share his book Gwendolyn the Graceful Pig with our students in grades K-2.  Our students will also watch dancers from the Albany Berkshire Ballet performing a dance interpretation of the book.  We are looking forward to the visit!

We have our October PTA meeting scheduled for the 18th at 7 p.m. in our library.  Child care will be provided for all of our meetings here at school.

We will wrap up the week with our Character Education Assembly presented by our 5th graders on Friday morning, October 19.  They will be presenting on our theme for this month, “Responsibility.”

As a result of our expanded Response to Intervention (RTI) programs all BC elementary schools are now using the conduct section of ASPEN to record behavior concerns for our students in grades 2-5.  This information is only available to parents/guardians and to your child’s educational team. It is intended to help us provide the most appropriate behavior supports for our students in a consistent, timely manner.  I will contact you directly if any issue comes up that is of concern and will work with you and our staff to address any issues that come up. As always if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

You should have received an email from the district asking you to complete a brief survey regarding education workshops.  The district is exploring offering free, informative parent workshops. The survey should only take a few minutes to complete and will remain open until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24.

Have a wonderful weekend.
