Letter from Principal Ksanznak, Sept. 27

Filed in Hamagrael by on September 27, 2019

Dear Parents,

All Bethlehem Central Schools will be closed on Monday, September 30 for Rosh Hashanah.

The week of September 30-October 4 will be a busy one here at school.  All week we will be celebrating our annual BCSD Farm to You Fest.  This is the 11th year of the week-long celebration of local farms and food.  We will have a “Squash Hunger” drive for local people in need.  We will have a collection bin in the front hallway for fresh produce to be donated.  There will also be a guess the weight of the pumpkin for students to enter to win a pumpkin.  Thanks to Jess Lafata for coordinating the program for us.

On Tuesday, October 1 the district will be hosting a Family Math Night for families of students in grades K-5.  The event will take place in the high school cafeteria from 6:30-7:30 p.m.  During the event students and parents will rotate through different math stations and find ways to enjoy math in a whole new way.

Our famous “Walk to School day is scheduled for Wednesday, October 2.  Hamagrael Elementary will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day which emphasizes the important of increasing physical activity, pedestrian and bicycle safety and a healthy environment.  The Bethlehem Police Department will be on hand to help out with the walk which begins at Winne Road and Center Lane at 8:45 a.m. and arrives here at school around 9:10 a.m.  Thanks to Krista Applebee, Kellie Rancourt and our PTA for all of their help with this event.

Our Hamagrael School Picture Day is also on Wednesday, October 2.  We do have a few teachers out on that day for district math training so we will take some of the class pictures on our makeup picture day which will be on November 21.  Thanks to our coordinators Yayoi Miyajima, Jackcy Jacob and Haley Schager.

New York State requires all school districts to hold an annual “Go Home Early” drill to ensure that students and staff know what to do in case an emergency requires school grounds to be cleared and students to be transported home.  This drill will take place on Thursday, October 3.  Students who usually walk or ride a bike to school are required to take the bus home on the day of the drill. We ask parents not to pick up their child on this day unless it is for an appointment.  In the event of a real emergency where access to the school or travel on roads might be restricted, your child will be better prepared by going through the drill on October 3.

Thursday, October 3

Dismissal:      3:05 p.m.

Departure:     3:10 p.m.

School’s Out will remain here at Hamagrael and students who attend School’s Out will go there at dismissal.  You can find more information about the drill on our website.

The signup for our Hamagrael Afterschool Enrichment program opens up at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning, Saturday, September 28. Here is the link:

Please consider being a volunteer in your child’s enrichment program if possible.  The fall calendar has been challenging to plan our enrichment classes so please pay close attention to the specific class dates listed.  Thanks to Christy Doyle for her efforts organizing this program for our students.

Please remember to check our virtual backpack for forms about upcoming events.  Here is the link:

On Friday, October 4 we will have a “Hamagrael Celebrates Homecoming” afternoon here at school.  BCHS Varsity boys and girl soccer players, football players and field hockey players will participate in some fun team activities with our students.  The program will take place from 2:30-3:00 p.m. here at school.

Have a wonderful weekend.
