Dear Parents,

The Hamagrael Spirit Wear sale has been extended until Monday, October 1.  Thanks to Cara Bashant for all of her work coordinating the spirit wear sales for our community.

The month of October will be a busy one here at school.  The week of October 1 we will be celebrating the 10th annual “Farm to Your Fest” in the district.  Throughout the week we will be collecting fresh fruits and veggies for local people in need.  Any fresh produce is welcome and our district has donated over 4,500 pounds of produce to the Capital Roots Squash Hunger Program over the past ten years.  You can find more information about the events scheduled throughout the district on our website.

The Bethlehem Central District middle school and high school chapters of No Place for Hate are kicking off the month with a Kindness campaign.  All BC students and staff are encouraged to wear blue on Monday, October 1. The No Place for Hate chapters work throughout the year to create a positive climate for our students.

New York State requires all school districts to hold an annual “Go Home Early Drill” to ensure that students and staff know what to do in case of an emergency that requires school grounds to be cleared and students to be transported home or to another location.  Our district will conduct this drill on Thursday, October 4. We will be dismissing 15 minutes earlier than usual on the 4th.  The children will be dismissed at 3:05 p.m. and our buses will leave at 3:10 p.m.

We are asking that all students take the bus home that day unless they have an appointment, if their enrichment class falls on that Thursday or if they attend the “School’s Out program.  This drill will help the children be better prepared if we do have a situation in which we need to clear school grounds. All elementary students have an assigned bus route that you can find on Aspen.  The district has posted information about this drill on the website.

During the week of October 8-12 we will celebrate Homecoming week here in Bethlehem.  During the week BCHS athletes on fall sports teams will visit Hamagrael to work with the children on different activities including reading, writing and spending time outside at recess.  On Friday, October 12 we are encouraging our students and staff here at Hamagrael to wear black and orange, BC or Hamagrael attire to celebrate homecoming.

Our annual “Walk to School Day” will be held on Wednesday, October 10.  This is always a popular event here at school and we will be getting more information to you about this event next week.

Our 5th graders will be attending the “Nature’s Classroom” program October 15-17.  This outdoor education program is always a favorite memory for our students as they head to Camp Becket, MA for two nights and three days of hands-on learning activities.

The Bethlehem Central Board of Education will hold their meeting on Wednesday, October 17 here at Hamagrael.  There will be a presentation on the elementary music program during the regular meeting.

Our Hamagrael PTA meeting will be held on Thursday, October 18 beginning at 7pm in our library.  Our PTA puts a lot of information out on their Facebook page so if you are on Facebook, please join the Hamagrael PTA page.

Author David Ira Rottenberg will be at Hamagrael on Thursday, October 18 to meet with our students in grades K-2.

We always wrap up the month with our always popular Hamagrael Halloween Party on Friday, October 26 beginning at 6:30pm here at school.

As you can see, a lot will be going on here at school!

Enjoy the weekend and as a reminder, our Afterschool Enrichment begins on Monday, October 1.

Sincerely,

Dave Ksanznak
