Letter from Principal Reagan, Apr. 13

Filed in Archive by on April 13, 2017

Dear Parents,

I hope this letter finds you beginning your spring break with family and friends. It’s hard to believe that we are getting ready to “Spring Forward!” It has been great to see the Spring excitement in the kids as they arrive to school with shorts and t-shirts (regardless of the forecast!) Our Spring recess is from Friday, April 14-21 and we are back at school on Monday the 24th.

I want to thank you all for the amazing amount of contributions we received via 99 pledges to our playground.  We raised over $ 10,000 – well over the amount I expected!  The continued support from our Eagle families is humbling.   As a result of reaching the $10,000 mark the PTO is planning a day in late May or early June as a celebration.  They will have a bouncy-bounce and bomb pops during recess for extra fun in the sun.   At this point, we need about $16,000 more to complete our playground (including trees for shade).  The next upcoming fund raiser will be in May when we will be selling field day t-shirts and water bottles.  Stay tuned for more information.

Spring break is a great time to read and practice math.  Please try read to your child, or have your child read every night. The following are two math websites appropriate for grades K-5.  Feel free to encourage your child to practice math via these sites:

Grades 3, 4, and 5 will be taking their NYS math tests the first week in May.  A good night’s sleep and hearty breakfast always helps – just a quick reminder if your child is in the upper grades!

Spring is also the time we begin to make plans for next year.  Many professional hours of planning and preparation are spent ensuring the most appropriate class placements for each child.  Eagle has an extensive process for placing students that ensures each class includes a heterogeneous grouping of students that creates an atmosphere where all students can learn.   In order to ensure that this process emphasizes each child as well as the class as a whole, we will not be accepting parent requests for specific teachers for next year.  We always welcome your input including feedback on your child’s ideal learning environment and will accept recommendations on a setting that will maximize his or her learning needs. The principal has the final decision on placement, so please refrain from making recommendations to staff members.  Please contact me if you would like to discuss your child’s individual learning styles and needs and your input will be taken into consideration. We are asking that you trust our staff and the process that we utilize to place your students—all of our decisions will be made with the best interest of all of the children at Eagle.

As always, I would like to thank all of our Eagle families and our staff members for being so generous with their time and talents.  Everyone is invested in the growth and success of all our children.   Thank you for your commitment to all our children, and have a great break.

Sincerely,

Dianna
