Be part of the Slingerlands Bookworm literary magazine

words and globeCalling all Slingerlands Elementary School writers and artists! See your original written pieces and artwork published in our literary and art magazine, Bookworm 2019. 

The theme for the magazine cover this year is Our Many Cultures. Two works of art that reflect this year’s theme will be used, one for the front cover and for the back cover. Others will appear throughout the magazine.

We welcome artwork and written submissions on any topic. Please see guidelines and submission details below to find out how to have your work included in the magazine. The submission deadline is Wednesday, April 3.

Guidelines and Submission Details

*Written submissions:

  • Can be fiction or nonfiction
  • No longer than two typed pages, 12 pt. Font, up to 1,200 words max
  • Must be typed and emailed to:
  • Only Microsoft Word or Google Docs, NO PDFs please
  • Pieces must include first and last name, grade and teacher
  • Please label the email subject line: grade, student first and last name, teacher. For example: K, John Doe, Mrs. Monthie

*Artwork submissions

  • Include first and last name, grade and teacher on the back
  • Can be placed in the Bookworm Box in the school library OR scanned as a .jpg, .tif, .png and emailed to
  • Must be in black ink (no color)
  • Use 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper
  • No writing should be included on the front of the art piece
  • One art piece will be selected for the front cover (must be based on theme of “Our Many Cultures”), one for the back cover and the rest will be included in the magazine

*One artwork and one written submission per student will be accepted; inclusion of additional personal submissions by the same student is up to the editors’ discretion.  Pieces that are part of class submissions by teachers do not count towards the above limits.

Each contributor will receive a personal copy of the magazine!
