On Friday, October 4, hundreds of middle school students lined up to sample fresh produce grown just outside the doors of their school in the Bethlehem Central Middle School gardens. Salad for Kids Day provides students with free salads for students as a way to celebrate the end of the growing season at BC and to remind them how delicious nutritious food can be. The BCMS Garden Club sponsors the event as part of the Healthy Kids Committee’s annual Farm to You Fest.

We served a record amount of produce this year on our salads day,” said Assistant Principal Mark Warford, advisor and founder of the school’s Garden Club. “We picked more than 100 heads of lettuce and hundreds of pounds of carrots, green beans, radishes, beets, and tomatoes, dishing out over 700 salads to staff and students.”

Warford said more than 20 parent volunteers helped prepare and serve the salads.

Thanks to Mr. Warford, Garden Club members, faculty and staff, and the wonderful parent volunteers who harvested, cleaned, prepared and served our salads last Friday. Their efforts keep our BC gardens going strong!
