School Bus Evacuation Drill

Filed in Archive by on September 14, 2016

On Thursday, September 15th, we will hold our first bus evacuation drill.  Each school year, the Bethlehem Central School District, in compliance with the New York State Education Law, holds three such drills. All students must partake in these drills, even if they don’t ride a school bus on a daily basis.

When the school buses arrive, each bus driver gives his/her riders a brief explanation of the bus safety rules and regulations. Afterwards the students are shown ways to exit the bus safely in the event of an emergency and then they go directly into the school building.

Students who attend School’s In, walk, or are driven to school on the day of the drill will be lined up in front of the building and will fill empty seats on buses as they arrive. Parents are encouraged to review this with their children prior to the morning of the drill so that they know what to expect. Children who do not arrive in a school bus should be dressed for the weather as they will be waiting outside until they can be placed on a bus. Whenever possible, however, we request students arrive by bus on the day of the drill. Thank you for helping us practice this very important safety drill.
