School Messenger emails, texts and phone calls

The Bethlehem Central School District uses the School Messenger Notification Service to enhance communication with families. This service allows us to send email, text and/or phone messages to ALL of parents and guardians within minutes if an emergency occurs at a school or if there is information that needs to be shared outside of school hours. The School Messenger service also assists the schools in reducing the resources needed to pass along key information regarding school events or reminders. The intent of this system is for group notification purposes.

The district uses School Messenger email and text notifications for:

  • School cancellations and delays due to inclement weather
  • Emergency notification such as evacuations
  • Early dismissals due to severe weather/emergencies
  • Transportation messages or emergencies
  • Other emergency situations as they arise

Due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the school schedule in the 2020-21 school year, the district is also using the phone notification in circumstances where time is of the essence. The phone feature will only be used when there is an unexpected schedule change or a notification of importance to all families in a school or districtwide. Because it is the most intrusive feature, it will be used only when needed.

The district and your child’s school may also use School Messenger for non-emergency purposes. These will be sent via email only:

  • Districtwide initiatives
  • Student or staff achievements or milestones
  • Grade level information
  • Schedule changes or information about after school events
  • Periodic updates from your child’s school

The ability to deliver a message is only as successful as the contact information we have for our families, so please make certain we have the most up-to-date direct dial numbers and email addresses. If this information changes, please let your child’s school know immediately.

Important:

  1. Your caller ID will display the number 518-694-3948 anytime a call is generated. Again, phone calls are used only when time is of the essence or there is an important, unexpected schedule change.
  2. School Messenger will leave a message on your voicemail or answering machine.
  3. School Messenger will only make one phone call per contact number when multiple family members in the same school have the same contact information.
  4. You may opt into receiving text messages by texting “Yes” to 67587. The cell phone number must be on file in Aspen in order to successfully opt in.  

You can verify your child’s contact information in Aspen. If you need to update your contact information in Aspen, please email District Registrar Melissa Haas at mhaas@bethlehemschools.org. If your information is correct but you are not receiving messages from the district, please contact the Communications Office at bcsdcommunications@bethlehemschools.org.
