School Messenger has replaced SNN

School Messenger is replacing School News Notifier (SNN)

If you have been receiving email news from the Bethlehem Central School District through School News Notifier (SNN), and want to continue to receive these emails, you will need to sign up for BC’s new email notification system called School Messenger. The district has been using School Messenger throughout the school year to contact parents of current students. School Messenger fully replaced SNN as of July 1, 2019, so we want to ensure that those who are not current parents/guardians still have access to BC news and alerts.

If you are a current K-12 parent/guardian or the parent/guardian of an incoming kindergartener, you do not need to do anything. K-12 families are already signed up for School Messenger through contact information that is stored in Aspen. Parents of incoming kindergarteners will be added to School Messenger in July.

Staff are also connected to School Messenger automatically through contact information the district has on file.

However, alumni, parents of alumni and other community members will want to read more about how to sign up for School Messenger.

Why the change?

School Messenger is a more efficient and effective way for the district to reach parents in an emergency. The system allows the district to contact parents via text and phone, if necessary. School Messenger also provides a community portal that allows the district to continue sending messages to community members who are interested in staying up to date on school events and news.

Community members can get alerts through School Messenger just like SNN

When you sign up for School Messenger, you can choose to receive alerts for general district news, weather-related closings, School Board news, Continuing Education, athletics and more.

As noted above, parents do not need to use the sign-up process outlined below. Parents are connected to School Messenger automatically, using the contact information stored in Aspen, while residents need to sign-up to receive messages. Parents who need to update their contact information in Aspen can email the District Registrar Melissa Haas at

In addition, BCSD staff members do not need to use the sign-up process outlined below.

Information and Sign-up Instructions for Community Members

We encourage community members to sign-up to receive messages from the district! If you do not currently have children in the Bethlehem Schools, you will need to go through the registration process below. This will allow you to select general district news, weather-related closings, School Board news, Continuing Education, athletics and more.

School Messenger Sign-up Process

You can create an account by clicking on the School Messenger link on this website:

Once there, follow these steps:

1. Select the link that says “First Time User? Sign-Up Now.” Fill in the form to create an account.

2. You will receive an e-mail with instructions and a link to activate the account.

3. Once you have activated your account, you will be brought to a screen with the heading “Notification Preferences.” On the lower portion of this screen, please select the notifications you would like to receive and click “save.” Please note: Attendance information is for parents only. Even if you select “Attendance” you will not receive any student attendance information.

4. To receive texts, click “Add More” under your e-mail address in the “Contact Area.” Select “SMS text” and enter the number of your phone that is equipped to receive text messages. The system will guide you through the steps, including making a confirmation phone call.

Note: As part of step #4, you can also choose to receive phone calls that are sent out by the district. The school district does not routinely use phone calls. Snow day alerts will go out via text and e-mail only.

You do not need to sign up for texts or phone calls. These are optional. 

5. If you do sign up with a phone number, once you have completed the phone confirmation call, click “Done.” You will be brought to a screen that displays your contact and notification preferences.

6. Hold on to your username and password in a secure manner so that you can log back into the system in case you need to change your notifications or contact information at any time.
