School supplies aid area refugees
Pictured above, the Director of RISSE, Francis Sengabo, Anthi Sokaris and Principal Heidi Bonacquist.
Last spring, Slingerlands asked students to submit proposals to sponsor one of three school-wide fundraisers of their choosing.
Third grader Anthi Sokaris’ submmitted her Student Outreach Proposal and it was accepted.
Anthi’s project involved collecting school supplies to support RISSE, the Refugee and Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus. RISSE, with a location in Albany, supports refugees by equipping them to build sustainable, independent lives with language and literacy instruction and support with life skills and integration into the U.S. culture and community.
Thanks to Anthi and a supportive Slingerlands Elementary community, the school was able to send boxes of school supplies to RISSE. Many thanks to all!
