This is the season of giving – let’s build the Eagle playground

Dear Eagle Families,

his is the Season of Giving…Let’s Build the Eagle Playground!Thank you to everyone who voted on November 29th to pass the 2016 BC Bond, which will be used to fund District-wide facility improvements.  As a result, Eagle will be adding security cameras, parking spaces, fixing the drainage issue along the blacktop area…and we will now have $104,000 allocated specifically to the expansion of the playground!

With the funding from the 2016 BC Bond and our PTO’s generous donation of $15,000 along with the proceeds from the Swifty’s Pancake Breakfast and the Turkey Shoot Out, we are over 70% of our total fundraising goal of $180,000.  Now we need your help to raise the final $60,000.  Our goal for the end of 2016 is to raise another $10,000!

The playground will be completed in 2 phases.  Phase 1 will be the installation of a Giant Spider Web, similar to the one at Elsmere and the most requested item by our children in the Playground Survey, is slated for Summer 2017.  Phase 2 will be adding the additional equipment in Spring 2019.

Eagle’s student population has grown to 420 and continues to grow each year!  The school has the capacity to have 550 students and the current playground does not have enough equipment to safely accommodate our current and future students.  The expanded playground will include equipment that will also help students with sensory processing and other developmental disabilities since many of our students require additional support outside the classroom. In addition, Eagle is the site for summer school for the entire district.  Students from all 5 elementary schools, the middle school and high school spend 6 weeks learning and playing at Eagle during the hottest part of the summer.  The new equipment and added shade will be a huge benefit to those attending the summer program.

As we roll out fundraising events throughout the 2016-2017 school year, we are about to begin soliciting local businesses.  We know that our case will be stronger if we have the full support of Eagle Families.  We are inviting Eagle Families to directly donate to the Playground project through 100% tax-deductible contributions.  We need your immediate help to make Phase 1 of the Playground a reality and to show local businesses that Eagle Families support this project.

Melanie Grossman, grossmanfamily27@gmail.com, and Amy McClain, amcclain@ymail.com, will be spearheading corporate fundraising.  If you work for a company or own a business that would consider supporting the playground expansion, please contact them directly at the email addresses above.

Thank you for giving our kids the best playground ever!
